Queen Letizia channels Kate Middleton in stunning black dress for glamorous night

Queen Letizia and her husband King Felipe VI attended the ceremony of the XXXIX Edition of the Francisco Cercedo Journalism Award at the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid, Spain. Journalist Pilar Bonet was the winner of 24,000 euros and a medal designed by the sculptor Julio Lopez Hernandez this year.

For the glamorous event, Queen Letizia wore a black lace dress featuring short sleeves and a bateau neck.

The Spanish monarch combined the midi gown with a mini black clutch bag and a pair of black stilettos.

For jewellery, Letizia opted for a pair of elegant black drop earrings which matched the gemstone detail on her dress.

Kate, Princess of Wales wore a very similar outfit to attend the Royal Variety Performance with Prince William in 2019.

Kate arrived at the London Palladium Theatre wearing a risqué black lace gown by one of her favourite designers, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

The floor-length dress featured long sleeves and showed off the Princess’ figure with a cinched waist.

The royal combined it with gold hoop earrings by Erdem, velvet Jimmy Choo heels and a matching black clutch bag.

Kate looked beautiful in the ensemble and the dress is still considered one of her most iconic looks today.

DON’T MISS:

However, according to a fashion expert, Kate may have to stop wearing this type of dress as it is not considered appropriate for a future Queen.

Fashion and royal expert Miranda Holder explained that as Kate takes one step closer to her future role, “it is likely that we will see her wardrobe become more formal and appropriate for her position”.

“Kate’s style personality is more classic and elegant, which suits both her lovely figure and her future role as our Queen,” she said.

She explained that the floaty feminine fabrics, lace dresses “and prints such as polka dots” will gradually give away to “more immaculately cut tailoring in Kate’s signature fit and flare style which complements her graceful figure perfectly”.

In fact, Kate has already made small changes to some of her outfits, particularly to the more formal dresses by making them less sheer.

The Princess wore a white and gold Alexander McQueen dress in 2012 that had diaphanous sleeves.

The design was altered to attend the BAFTA awards a few years later, and the sleeves were modified to become opaque.

Similarly, for Christmas lunch with the Queen in 2019, she wore a tartan Emilia Wickstead dress.

A couple of years later at Buckingham Palace, she was seen donning the festive outfit again but the sleeves were now opaque.

According to the stylist, these changes were made as sheer designs and see-through dresses are not deemed “appropriate” for Queens.
